I was thrilled to travel recently to Spain and Mallorca, as part of a Mediterranean cruise. I had the opportunity to do some beachcombing in both Barcelona and Palma de Mallorca. Beachcombing was just a part of a larger agenda of exploring this beaautiful area, where there is so much to see. The beaches I visited in Barcelona were popular tourist destinations, primarily for sun bathing. The beaches were sandy, although I did find some sea glass in areas with some pebbles. After spending 3 days exploring Barcelona, and the surrounding area, it was time to board the cruise ship. Then it was onto our first stop in Palma de Mallorca.

The island of Mallorca is southeast of Barcelona and is surrounded by the Ballearic Sea. The port city of Palma de Mallorca situated on the Bay of Palma. There are beautiful beaches to explore along the Parc de la Mer. As we walked along this waterfront parkway we explored the nearby beaches. Perhaps because we were there on a weekday, there were few people on the beach, however, the sea glass was plentiful, with many pieces waiting to be collected. The only limitation for us was time. After filling up a ziplock sandwich bag to almost overflowing with sea glass, then it was time for lunch and a stroll through the old city.

Palma de Mallorca is a beautiful city to stroll through. The historic part of town has narrow streets and hidden gardens beckon. The Palma Cathedral and Royal Palace of La Almudaina are worthy of exploration. These architectural gemsdate back to the 13th and 14th century.
